First snow

First snow

The first snows of winter arrived quietly, marking the beginning of the year on the 5th of January. These photographs were taken on an early morning walk through Willington, Cheshire, when the landscape was still hushed and untouched. I set out before sunrise, the world muted in soft blues and greys, the snow absorbing sound and time alike. As I walked, the light slowly began to change. The sun lifted above the horizon and the cold stillness was warmed by gentle amber tones, catching the tops of the trees and setting the frosted fields aglow. In that brief transition from night to day, winter revealed both its severity and its beauty, a calm, reflective start to the year, where the simplest moments felt quietly profound.
