A Special View


I had a conversation with Karen Manby about a view that held deep meaning for her - a scene from her childhood that had stayed with her over the years. Through our conversations, I worked closely with Karen to create a painting that captured not just the physical landscape, but the emotion and nostalgia tied to it. The finished piece serves as a personal and heartfelt tribute to the place where her memories were made.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Norm on a very special project - recreating the view from where I grew up in a painting. Well in reality, he did all of the hard work! I provided a photo and then tried to convey the feelings the scene evoked in me and what Norm delivered was nothing short of miraculous.

The painting perfectly captures not only the landscape, but the emotions tied to my memories. A sense of calm, space, late summer days, wildness and lying in the grass with an abundance of time to see the detail. And every detail in the painting, the colours, texture, light and atmosphere, feel true to the beauty and expansiveness of place and time. Norm showed me the work before it was fully finished and listened as we talked through a couple of changes in emphasis and then it was done.

I am beyond thrilled with the outcome and will treasure this painting, with it's depth and warmth and cannot thank Norm enough for really understanding and caring about the piece.

My memories have now become timeless.
